THE Inayawan landfill will reopen next Tuesday after Cebu City Hall complied with the requirements for its reopening set by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).

Cebu City Acting Mayor Margot Osmeña said she and outgoing Cebu City Councilor Nida Cabrera met with Regional EMB Director William Cuñado recently and received a notice to proceed with the reopening of the landfill.

The requirements include the rehabilitation of the Inayawan landfill and the institutionalization of a new waste management system in the city.

Osmeña said the landfill’s reopening will result in savings to the city.

“From the tipping fee, the gasoline and the fuel, even in the maintenance of the trucks (servicing from Cebu City to Consolacion),” Osmeña said. It was learned that the city government is paying P20 million in tipping fees to the private landfill in Consolacion.
