A “surrenderer,” who promised to stop his illegal drug activity, was shot dead yesterday after he tried to shoot it out with police during a buy-bust operation in Mandaue City.
Three other surrenderers with another cohort were also arrested in Liloan town in northern Cebu in another police operation.
Marcelino Ferolino died after he was shot in the chest when he drew a gun to shoot the undercover policeman acting as a poseur-buyer in the Barangay Subangdaku operation yesterday.
Senior Insp. Narciso Abapo, Subangdaku police station chief, said Ferolino pulled out a gun when he suspected that he was selling the illegal drugs to a police officer.
Abapo said Ferolino’s gun misfired and the police officer backing up the poseur-buyer shot Ferolino in the chest to save his partner.
“Kon dili namo sila ma-neutralize kuyaw kaayo nga kami na unya’y mabutang sa delikado (If we had not neutralized him, then we would have put our lives in danger),” said Abapo.
Abapo said Ferolino was one of the persons in their drug watch list and was among those visited in the Oplan Tokhang they conducted.
Abapo said that Ferolino, a resident of Sitio Nawanaw, surrendered to police early this month after they visited him and asked him to stop his illegal trade.
But after surrendering and promising to stop his illegal trade, Ferolino allegedly continued selling drugs, and police learned about it and conducted the operation against Ferolino.
Abapo said they recovered 19 small sachets of suspected shabu worth P15,700, a .38 caliber revolver with three live bullets and the P200 buy-bust money from Ferolino’s body.
In Liloan town, three more surrenderers were caught also selling suspected shabu at past 2 p.m. yesterday in Barangay San Vicente.
Senior Insp. Ramil Morpos, Liloan station commander, said they arrested Julio Borromeo and his wife, Naneth Barbon, during a buy-bust operation.
Morpos said they also chanced upon two other persons inside Borromeo’s house, who turned out to be Borromeo’s suppliers, and arrested them.
Those arrested were Jury Roble and Christopher Pocot of Canduman, Mandaue City.
Morpos said Roble and Pocot were allegedly identified as Borromeo’s drug suppliers.
Morpos said they also confiscated 21 small sachets of suspected shabu and two big packs of suspected shabu worth P141,000 and P186,500 respectively and a .38 caliber revolver with 3 bullets from the suspects.
Morpos said Roble and Pocot early this month surrendered to the Canduman police station promising to stop their illegal trade while Borromeo also surrendered early this month to the Liloan Police.
