THE CEBU Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) in cooperation with the Philippine Heart Association will be conducting a Basic Life Support Seminar today at the Cebu Coliseum.
The seminar will start at 8 a.m. and coaches and athletes of the various sports are required to attend.
The event is being conducted to train league coaches and athletes on the value of life and the importance of learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) especially in the wake of the death of PBA player Gilbert Bulawan, who passed away due to an enlarged heart after collapsing in practice.
The seminar will be conducted by league physician Dr. Rhoel Dejano, and Dr. Francisco Chio and Dr. Brett Batoctoy, president and past president, respectively, of the Philippine Heart Association-Cebu Chapter.
Also on hand will be a team of volunteer doctors and crew from the PHA-Cebu chapter.
Dr. Ma. Celine Aquino will conduct a lecture on Basic CPR, and this will be followed by a hands-on demonstration and workshop where all participants will be tasked to conduct CPR under the supervision of the PHA-Cebu Chapter team.
“We recognize the importance of saving lives and are very thankful to the Philippine Heart Association-Cebu Chapter for this partnership,” said league commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy of the event that is considered to be a first in the country.
