BARANGAY health workers (BHWs) were elated with the announcement of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña that they would be given a one-month extension after the termination of their services last week.

“Gitagaan mi niya og one-month extension with pay para maka reapply. Good news ni siya para sa amo (He gave us one-month extension with pay to allow us to reapply. This is good news for us),” said Jeoffrey Dueños, president of United Barangay Health Workers of Cebu City Federation Inc.(UBHWCCFI).

Councilor Mary Ann de los Santos, who was appointed by Osmeña as deputy mayor for health services, said all BHWs can reapply. She said applicants will be evaluated by the Cebu City Health Office.

Dueños said she remained hopeful that all 540 of them will be rehired by the Cebu City government. /USJ-R Intern Dafne N. Wenceslao
