Two drug suspects killed in San Remigio town, Danao City

Two drug suspects were gunned down in separate anti-drug operations in San Remigio town and Danao City, northern Cebu.

Francisco Pontay was shot by operatives in San Remegio town past 9 p.m. on Thusday after he pulled out a gun when he noticed he was a target of a sting operation.

Eric Mata was also killed in a buy-bust operation in Danao City about 2 a.m. on Friday when he tried to resist arrest.

The police said both Pontay and Mata were noted drug personalities in their areas but refused to surrender during the Oplan Tokhang, a police campaign that asked drug personalities to surrender and change their ways.

According to SPO2 Martin Aresgado, deputy chief of San Remegio police station, an undercover policeman bought P200 worth of shabu from Pontay but the latter noticed that it was a sting operation.

Pontay allegedly pulled out his gun to shoot the operative but the firearm jammed.
Other policemen who were monitoring the transaction immediately shot Pontay who died upon reaching a district hospital in Bogo City.

Recovered from the suspect possessions were two small sachets of shabu, P200 in mark money, .38 caliber gun with 4 live bullets and drug paraphernalia.

It was also almost the same scenario in sitio Camalig Bato, Barangay Tabok, Danao City around 2 on Friday.

Mata was subject of a buy bust operation but the suspect noticed that he was transacting with a policeman and tried to shoot him, prompting the other policemen to fire at Bato instead, said PO3 Roselo Campo of Danao City police station.

Recovered from Mata were one medium-size plastic pack shabu, drug paraphernalia and .45 caliber gun pitols.
