THE provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec) office won’t entertain any extension of voter registration for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

Cebu Provincial Election Officer Lionel Marco Castillano told reporters on Tuesday morning that under the voter registration law, there will be “no registration 90 days before the election”.

Castillano said the last election was an exemption since there was still time to hold an extension of the registration. “This time there is a legal prohibition,” he told reporters.

As of the last day of registration on July 30, about 15,841 were registered under the new voters on that day aged 15 to 17 years old for the SK election. There were 6,555 new registrants for that day for the barangay election.

Comelec has allotted at least two weeks for the registration of new voters. The last day of the registration for new voters was last July 30 where 100 new voters flocked to Comelec offices.
