ONE died while four were injured in a collision between three vehicles at Ibo highway, Lapu-Lapu City at past 6 am Saturday.

Maria Barretto, a 42-year-old resident of Deca 4 in Barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu city died on the spot while her 20-year-old backrider Rosana Daban was seriously injured.

A 30-year-old multi-cab driver named Jemie Ortega and his 41-year-old passenger Cerenia De Lota of Barangay Ibo were also injured. They were brought along with Daban, Barretto’s maid, to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

The collision was caused by 18-year-old Liam Louis Macasocol, a resident of Ma. Luisa Banilad, Cebu City and a student pilot of Airworks Flying School in Lapu-Lapu City.

Macasocol drove a Toyota Camry at full speed from the Pusok area and was headed to Ibo when it swerved to the opposite lane at a curved road and hit the multi-cab passenger jeepney driven by Ortego, traffic investigator PO2 Jomar Florentino said.

Barretto who was a little bit behind at the multicab’s left side was also hit by the Camry through its right front door. Barretto was thrown 10 meters back and wrecked the front portion of the motorcycle.

Macasocol who only had scratches in his right lower arm was placed under police custody. His lawyer Briccio Boholst sought a settlement of the case.

Barretto has two children aged 18 and 14 years old. She owns an eatery at Pusok while her husband works in Singapore.
