JAPHY Catana and Raymond Gringrea of Danao City secured the top Level E men’s doubles title of the 2nd Freedom Cup badminton tournament last Sunday night at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The Catana-Gringrea pair waylaid Carlo Alisoso and James Ghloebert Balaba of the organizing White Feathers Badminton Club team, 21-18, 21-13, for the crown.
In the Level F women’s doubles finals action, Melanie Sacro and Elloise Esperanza from the Leyte Sports Academy team defeated Demi Mancao and Almary Ybañez of the White Feathers Badminton Club, 21-10, 21-14.
Roy Vitualla and Abraham Lacerna of the Leyte Sports Academy topped the level F men’s doubles division after scoring a thrilling 17-21, 21-12, 22-20 win over Jack Rojas and Gerard Cosicol of Cebu City.
Trans-Asia Shipping Lines’ tandem of Tancredo Rustia and Rommel Maglasang, meanwhile, scored a three-set thriller win over Allan Dianon and Jake Napiza of the White Feathers Badminton Club, 21-16, 11-21, 21-17, to win the level G men’s doubles category title.
In the Level G women’s doubles finals, Maggie Montejo and Lerma Benaoro trounced Chit Calades and Hazel Mendoza of Catbalogan City, 21-19, 21-18, to place first.
Carmina Therese Dacalos and Abdon Hayag gave White Feathers Badminton Club its only title as they defeated the pair of Benaoro and Jose Jason Villarba, 21-12, 21-19, to rule the Executive mixed doubles category.
The 2nd Freedom Cup badminton tournament was co-organized by the Cebu City Sports Commission in cooperation Babolat Philippines. It was backed up by Virginia Foods Inc., Dacalos Law Office, and Danny Villagarcia.
