A global player in the healthcare business process outsourcing space has opened its first branch in the country in Cebu, providing employment opportunities to some 600 professionals particularly those who finished medical-related courses.

PMAXGlobal officially marked the start of their operations in Cebu yesterday with the blessing of their 1,500-square meters office located at the third floor of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

In an interview, PMAX Global vice president for global strategy Michael Johnson said they decided to open in Cebu because of the availability of well-educated and well-trained workforce as well as the availability of the right infrastructure that will support their planned growth.

“We looked at a lot of places in the country and we saw that Cebu has the needed elements that we are looking for to setup a branch. The workforce here take customer service by heart aside from the fact that we have fresh people here who are well educated,” he said.

PMAXGlobal soft opened on April 24 this year and over that period of time, Johnson said they have been getting rich supply of qualified manpower.

At present, the company already employs 100 workers and looks to hire 300 to 400 people in the next six months and will end the year with at least 500 employees.

Johnson said they are looking for medical professionals who have clinical exposures including nurses for their medical coding services.

“We need healthcare professionals that can learn technology with clinical experience for our medical coders job. Overtime, we will also need people

for customer service, billing, survey representatives, marketing, software developers and accounting specialists,” he said.

First in Cebu

The medical coders are the first of their kind in Cebu, according to Johnson, adding that they have developed a special training program for the specialized service.

“When a chart is created by doctors in the US (United States of America), it is then sent to insurance companies. These charts will need documentation and we need healthcare professionals like nurses to document that using medical codes,” he said.

Their clients are based in the USA and Canada where the healthcare industry is projected to continue to expand; thus providing more demand for back-end jobs like medical coders.

Aside from medical coders, PMAX Global also needs more people to fill in their accounts receivable positions.

“The AR (accounts receivable) basically goes after insurance companies to make sure our doctors, who are our clients, get paid. Now we have about 45 AR representatives and we’ll be adding more as we grow,” he said.

Johnson said that they are eyeing to grow more in Cebu by adding more branches and offices in the next years.

“The thing is we’ll look at how this branch will do. We hope we can find more people here and then we’ll expand. Although at the rate that we are running now, I am confident that we can achieve our targets and most likely add more because we are really looking to grow our operations here,” he said.

PMAXGlobal currently has branches in the USA, India and the Philippines with the opening of its Cebu office.

With 45 years of experience in the healthcare industry, PMAXGlobal has developed a track record of delivering unbeatable service to medical practices and providers in various parts of the world.
