Former, current Cesafi players to vie in Let’s Get Vertical volleyball

PAST AND CURRENT Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) volleyball players will have a chance to showcase their skills as they compete in the second season of the 8×8 Let’s Get Vertical Invitational volleyball tournament on Aug. 5.

Among those who have confirmed their participation are the Hawaiian Valley Masters, which will be led by Season 1 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Roy Ulan and former University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) hard-hitter Dave Arreza; New York Spikers; Golden State Bullets; Miami Heatlers; and the Nevada Volleyballista headed by former University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) team captain Left Jhon Tormis.

“I was a player before. I want to give back to the community because of the lack of the opportunities available most especially at the grassroots level,” said tournament director Jojo Tan Deme.

Unlike a regular volleyball game which has a maximum number of 12 players, this tournament will only limit teams to have eight players to give everybody a chance to play every game.

Tan-Deme said that they are looking at the Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu and the Southwestern University Coliseum as the possible venues of the tournament, which drew 12 teams.

Completing the participating teams are Oklahoma Champions, Penn State Hitters, Posh Massachusetts, Texas All Stars, Toronto Smashers, West Virginia Wildcats and the Cleveland Diggers led by team captain Allan Flores, current USJ-R spiker RA Tecson and 2016 Cesafi boys’ champion Samlet Booc of USPF.
