FIFTY years after they first set up their motorcycle business in Mandaue City, the Norkis Group of Companies will try to get a share of the booming outsourcing industry with their P6 billion cyberpark project.
With Cebu included in the top eight most preferred outsourcing destinations in the world, according to a Tholons survey, the group said they are confident that the cyberpark will soon be home to major outsourcing companies in the world.
They decided to develop the 2.8-hectare property along A.S. Fortuna (Avenue) to help fuel economic growth for the city by providing an avenue for more job creation and bring in additional revenue for the government through the remittances that the companies will bring in for their operations, said Dr. Norberto B. Quisumbing, Jr., Norkis Group of Companies chairman during yesterday’s briefing.
“This is where we started and we will continue to pour in more investments here,” Quisumbing said adding that he was dedicating this project to his wife Britta who recently passed away.
Called the Norkis Cyberpark, the 2.8-hectare development project, will have five buildings that will offer office space to outsourcing companies.
The Norkis Group earlier tapped the services of DEI Properties Inc. to manage the project.
The Norkis Cyberpark should be able to cater to the needs of these outsourcing companies soon with Norkis 1 already PEZA-approved, said Danilo E. Ignacio, DEI Properties Inc. chairman.
Ignacio also said that they have tapped the services of international property brokers like CB Richard Ellis and Jones Lang LaSalle to help them look for outsourcing companies to rent their property.
FIRST PHASE
Norkis 1 is the first building to be built in the cyberpark. It will have will have six floors with 1,500 square meters of space each floor.
“For the first phase which includes the first building and the commercial strip called The Arcade at Norkis Cyberpark, we expect completion by September this year,” said Ignacio.
Other buildings will have eight, ten, twelve and twenty stories which will all be completed in three to five years time.
“We are happy that we have the business confidence in our city. The Norkis Group which is already an institution here is one of the companies that has been driving the growth of the economy in Mandaue. This investment will help create more jobs for Mandaue, just imagine the multiplier-effect of that project,” said Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes.
