THE LYCANS snatched the title in the inaugural Inter Moto Championship after they pulled the rug from under the erstwhile unbeaten Higala, 54-53, in the finals last weekend at the Sacred Heart Center Sports Club.
Owned by Dondon Aropo, the Lycans added a third trophy to their collection this season, under the tutelage of former University of the Visayas ace and now coach, Ritchum Dennison.
The win was hardly an easy one for the Lycans as they were in a dogfight with Higala for most of the game, with neither team leading by more than six points.
Old sentinels Ranel Cortes and Carlo Camacaylan kept them in the game while defensive studs Elmer Laurente and Ariel Edera hounded Higala’s aces from blowing the game wide open.
The game was tied for the last time at 53-all when Cortes drove down the middle of the lane and got fouled. With the game and the title on the line, he missed the first but calmly made the second to give the Lycans the one-point lead with just three seconds left.
Higala had a chance to win the game but the Lycans’ frenetic defense held their ground and kept the former from getting a shot off as time expired, to give the latter the win and the trophy.
