MUCH-IMPROVED big man Alex Visser is bringing his developing talents to the camp of the reigning NCAA champions, San Beda Red Lions.
A product of the multi-titled SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles, the 6-foot-5 Visser has improved by leaps and bounds, so much so that he was ranked as the 24th best prospect in the Chooks-to-Go/NBTC rankings and made it to the NBTC National High School All Star Game earlier this year.
After getting invites from Far Eastern University, National University and the College of St. Benilde, the Filipino-Dutch center by way of Dumaguete City decided on joining San Beda.
Team B first
“Initially I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to San Beda, but they asked me to try out and when I did, everyone was very friendly and the coaches were very welcoming,” Visser related to Cebu Daily News. “I really felt I fit in well in their system and I believe that the coaches can really help me develop my basketball skills. Also there were many familiar faces so I quickly felt at home.”
Visser will still be suiting up for San Beda’s Team B at first, joining the likes of San Beda Red Cubs, Peter Alfaro, Prince Etrata, and Sean Garcia just to name a few.
Visser explained that he really doesn’t really mind being relegated to Team B and vowed to make the most out of the opportunity to get better and be ready if and when he is called up to the varsity squad.
“They already had a full team, and they didn’t promise me anything but I don’t mind waiting a year or two to get in team A. I’m still young so there’s really no rush. I want to just work hard in team B for now so when I’m worthy of team A, I will be ready,” said Visser.
