WITH several pieces of his championship-winning squad from last season gone for one reason or another, the University of the Visayas Green Lancers’ head coach Gary Cortes is preparing to hand some serious responsibilities to other players on the team.
With the Green Lancers set to take on the Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras in the Cesafi Partner’s Cup Preseason Tournament today wherein they’re eyeing a third straight win, Cortes bared that some players must step up in the absence of several key cogs as they prepare for the Cesafi season which opens in August.
“For the big men, I would say Michael Maestre is ready to make the jump and step up. As for the guards, I now have (Gileant) Delator and (Jim) Amistoso who can help with the point guard duties, whereas before, I really only had (Sheldon) Gahi.”
