Labor dispute eyed as motive in explosion that hit Lim’s business
A labor dispute involving controversial businessman Peter Lim’s company is being investigated by police in relation to the explosion outside Lim’s establishment in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City last July 5.
“We received a report from the barangay that there were employees terminated that allegedly were not paid by the company of Lim. We are looking into that,” said Chief Supt. Debold Sinas, acting Police Regional Office chief.
Last July 5, unidentified men set off two “Molotov bombs” or bottle based incendiary devices at the display area of Hilton Motors Corp. owned by Lim. It was the second time in a week that Lim’s businesses had been hit.
Sinas said they have no information linking the explosion to Lim’s tagging as a suspected drug lord by President Rodrigo Duterte. President Duterte publicly identified Lim as a big-time drug lord, a claim the businessman strongly denied.
Last June 30, three armed men disarmed the security guard of Infinity KTV & Music Lounge in Archbishop Reyes Ave., Cebu City — a bar owned by Lim’s younger brother Wellington — and tried to set the establishment on fire.
Last March 23, unidentified men also fired at a vehicle reportedly driven by Wellington as he was leaving the Infinity carpark.
Wellington was unharmed but a security guard was killed while another security guard and two foreigners who happened to pass by during the shooting were wounded.
