Cebu tourism stakeholders prepare for Holy Week, summer visitors
CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) has started coordination with law enforcement agencies to secure local destinations that are expected to be visited by tourists during the Holy Week celebration and during the duration of the summer months.
Floreza Alpuerto, PTO officer-in-charge, said that they will be meeting with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Hotel, Resort, and Restaurant Association of Cebu (HRRAC) Inc. in a security summit scheduled from April 12 and 15 to discuss their security plans.
“We are seriously coordinating man gyud with the AFP as well as the PNP. Last Monday, we already met with the CCPO (Cebu Police Provincial Office) and we have initial na nga meeting with their Tourist Police Unit in-charge,” Alpuerto said.
Alpuerto said they expect local and foreign tourists to start arriving in Cebu next week. Tourist visits are expected to continue in the coming days.
“Cebu is a prime tourist destination baya gyud. Recently, na-awardan ta sa Tripadvisor as Top 25 best destination in Asia and daghan na man pod tag attractions. Tourism stakeholders in Cebu also meet for a security summit in Oslob town on February 3 to especially discuss the travel advisory issued by the United Kingdom to discourage their nationals from traveling to southern Cebu towns citing terror threats in the area. /dcb
