CEBU CITY, Philippines — An active policeman assigned at the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO -7) survived an ambush shortly after he and his family attended a Mass on Good Friday, April 19, in Samboan town, Cebu.

Motorcycle-riding assailants waylaid Police Master Sergeant Roy Calavida as he and his sister and three other family members were about to go home after attending a Mass in St. Michael Archangel Church in Barangay Poblacion, Samboan town at past 7 p.m.

Samboan is a fifth-class municipality located 151 kilometers southwest of Cebu City.

Police Master Sergeant Precyl Habagat of the Samboan Police Station told CDN Digital in a phone interview that the gunmen shot Cavalida and his sister, Nanette, inside their car.

Habagat also said Cavalida is currently assigned at Camp Sergio Osmeña in Cebu City, the headquarters of PRO -7.

Both victims survived the ambush-slay attempt and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Habagat said the three other family members on board the vehicle were not harmed.

He added investigators were investigating the shooting attack and were trying to determine the reason for the attack./dbs
