THE graduation ceremonies of the Talisay City College went without a hitch as 718 students received their diploma from school president Richel Bacaltos yesterday afternoon.
The TCC’s seventh annual commencement exercises held at barangay Tabunok, Talisay City gym was attended by the Board of Trustees, former congressman and school founder Eduardo Gullas and his son, Rep. Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas of Cebu’s 1st district.
Talisay City Mayor Johnny V. de los Reyes didn’t show up for the ceremonies.
He said he was not invited nor was he listed in the commencement program even if he chairs the Board of Trustees.
He said the tarpaulins in front of the sports complex welcomed the elder Gullas and congratulated the graduates. Delos Reyes said he was dismayed that he wasn’t invited to the event.
He said it may be the first time that the mayor wasn’t invited to the graduation ceremonies.
Appointment
Delos Reyes appointed Dr. Paulus Cañete to replace Bacaltos, who contested the appointment in court.
The board affirmed Bacaltos’ status as TCC president.
During the graduation rites yesterday Bacaltos stood at centerstage and declared the confirmation of this year’s graduates which was met with applause.
In his speech, Rep. Gullas cited the importance of finishing school and the opportunities it offers to graduates.
His father said no one can question Bacaltos’ legitimacy as TCC president after he received support from the Board of Trustees.
The former congressman said there are universities and school colleges whose president isn’t a doctorate degree holder.
