Danao fishers caught fishing in Talisay City waters

By: Norman V. Mendoza April 08,2014 - 04:14 PM

Fifty three fishers on board three fishing vessels from Danao City were caught by fish wardens for illegally fishing within the waters of Talisay City.

The fishing vessels MV Reym Joy, MV Gretchen and MV Jesnor were brought to Lapu-Lapu City after being caught fishing 10.2 kilometers off Talisay City.

Under the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998, all fishery related activities should be limited within the respective areas of jurisdictions of local government units.

The LGUs will issue permits to small and medium fishing vessels operating within its area. Charges will be filed against the fishers for violating the Fisheries Code or Republic Act 8550.
