By: Rene Alima April 28,2014 - 01:48 AM

A MAN was arrested after he was caught possessing packs suspected to contain shabu and a grenade in a checkpoint in barangay Sabang, Danao City, northern Cebu.

Police identified the suspect as Richard Capungan, a resident of barangay Baliang, Danao.
Police arrested Capungan after a brief chase.

Capungan was a passenger of a motorcycle that was flagged down by police in a checkpoint last Saturday night.

Capungan hurriedly disembarked and ran. The police gave chase and eventually cornered the man.

Police frisked Capungan and found seven sachets suspected to contain shabu and a grenade.

In a separate incident in Danao, police arrested a man after he and his companion allegedly tried to rob a businessman in barangay Sabang Friday night.

Junrey Gonzalez, 24, yielded a .45 cal. pistol.

Gonzalez’s alleged cohort, a certain Mando, eluded arrest.

Police said Angelo Danao had just delivered fruits to Mitsumi when the two men tried to rob him.

Two men drove beside the Multicab that Danao was driving and poked a gun at him.

PO3 Ronald Gomez said the suspects ordered Danao to pull over but the businessman fought back.

Danao later jumped out of the Multicab to escape.

Fortunately, patrolling policemen’s timely arrival saved Danao. Police then arrested Gonzalez.

Gonzales is detained at the Danao Police Statio pending the filing of charges against him, police said.
