MCIA construction won’t affect air base operations
THE expansion of the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) terminal will not hamper the operations of the Benito Ebuen Air Base of the Philippine Air Force.
Lt. Col. Marciano Jesus Guevarra, chief of Civil Military Operations of the 2nd Air Division said that there is an area that will be constructed for them.
“We will be moved to the helicopter area. It will have the same size as what we have now,” Guevarra told Cebu Daily News.
The Mactan Cebu International Port (MIP) including the VIP lounge of the Benito Ebuen Air Base will be affected during the construction and expansion of the MCIA terminal.
“So it has been agreed before that the replicated area will be finished first before the demolition of the structures in the air base so that it will not hamper our operations,” he said.
Although it is not as busy now, the Ebuen Air Base was one of the vital hubs of the multinational humanitarian operations that followed Supertyphoon Yolanda that hit the country on Nov. 8 last year.
During regular days, the PAF air base holds a preventive maintenance, inspection and scheduled inspection of aircraft.
