The former overseas worker who held his wife and children hostage over the weekend will be charged before the prosecutors’ office today.
Police said Veroni Bacon will be charged with violating the law protecting women and children, illegal detention and illegal possession of firearms.
His wife, Lendela, yesterday executed an affidavit which the police will submit to prosecutors.
Bacon was reportedly under the influence of illegal drugs when he took his family hostage. He suspected that his wife is having an affair with another man.
Bacon on Sunday apologized to his wife and asked her not to file charges against him but Landela was firm in her decision.
Bacon, an industrial engineer, used to work in Canada but was forced to stop working after he failed in a medical test.
He tried applying for another job abroad but was unsuccessful due to health problems.
Last Saturday, he locked himself up in his house in barangay Tina-an, Naga City with his wife and children – Verna, 22; and one-year-old Vania. He was armed with a .357 cal. revolver.
The drama, which drew the attention of the whole neighborhood started at 5 a.m. and ended at 6 p.m. after police barged into the room and arrested Bacon.
Devi, 23, the eldest child, admitted that her father is a drug user who often mauls her mother every time they fight.
Landela and her children moved out and stayed in another house but she still visits her husband in their house.
After being held for 12 hours, Landela and her children were brought to a nearby hospital for a check up.
Landela had bruises in her arms but the children were not harmed. /Le-an Lai Lacaba, UPVTC Intern
