LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines – Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to intensify their patrol activities in public places and to strictly implement the health and safety protocols amid the rising cases of COVID-19 in the country.

In a public address through his Facebook page, Chan instructed the PNP to apprehend those who will not be wearing a face mask, who will not bring a quarantine pass and those who will violate the social distancing protocol.

Chan also reminded the Oponganons that Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is still around, even though the city only logs a single digit of newly reported cases every day.

Compared to last December wherein there were days that the city did not record any case of the virus, Chan said that this month, the city has always logged new infections.

Aside from the health and safety protocols, the city will also strictly implement the curfew ordinance and the number coding for vehicles and quarantine pass.

Chan, however, clarified that frontliners and authorized persons outside residence (APOR) will remain exempted from these policies.

The mayor also orders the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) to continue to monitor public beaches, especially during weekends, to ensure that the 50% capacity is properly observed.

He also reminded Oponganons that contact sports are still prohibited by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases. /rcg
