COVID-19 affects all 80 Cebu City barangays
But no new infections reported in 14 villages in past 10 days
CEBU CITY, Philippines – The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has affected all 80 barangays in Cebu City, barely a year after the first confirmed patients here were reported.
Data from the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) showed that as of February 27, 2021, all 80 villages in the city have reported at least one confirmed case of the infection.
But the same report also stated that 14 of them have not reported any new case in the past 10 days.
This meant that active COVID-19 cases are found in the remaining 66 barangays, and a development welcomed by the city’s EOC.
“Mao gyud, wala na (tay barangay with zero case). But on the other hand, 14 na ka barangays walay reported transmission for the last 10 days. A week ago, seven nalang but now ni double na at 14,” said Councilor Joel Garganera, chief of the city’s EOC.

To recall, the last three barangays that have not registered any confirmed case of COVID were Paril, Tabunan and Tagba-o, all of which happened to be located in the city’s hinterlands.
EOC’s data also showed that Barangay Guadalupe remained as the village with the most number of new infections reported from February 18 to February 27, totaling to 232.
Those that were part of the Top 10 list also included Tisa with 106; Labangon with 100; Apas with 89; Lahug with 88; Talamban with 87; Mabolo with 74; Kamputhaw with 73; Punta Princesa with 64; Sambag 2 with 49; and Sambag 1 with 49.
Other barangays that reported double-digits in the number of new COVID-19 cases within the same period were Capitol-Site with 45; Basak Pardo with 43; Busay with 41; Banilad with 40; Inayawan with 40; Bulacao with 33; Basak San Nicolas with 33; Quiot with 32; Pardo with 26; Luz with 25; Kinasang-an Pardo with 23; Duljo-Fatima with 20; Buhisan with 19; Carreta with 18; Tejero with 18; San Roque with 17; Cogon Ramos with 14; Pulangbato with 14; Hipodromo with 13; Pahina Central with 13; Pit-os with 13; Guba with 11, and Sto. Niño with 11.
More recoveries
But while all barangays in the city have recorded at least one confirmed case of COVID-19, Garganera said that on February 27, they were able to sustain in reporting more recoveries than additional cases of the infection.
“(This is our) 6th day straight na taas ang recoveries kasya sa (with higher recoveries than) daily positive cases,” he added.
Cebu City, once tagged as the epicenter of COVID-19 outbreak in Central Visayas, has already documented a total of 17, 176 cases as of February 27, the EOC’s report revealed.
Of this number, 13, 914 have already recovered while 740 were mortalities. This left health officials to monitor a total of 2,522 active cases, which refer to patients still infected with SARS-CoV-2, and most of whom are asymptomatic.
