The University of San Carlos (USC) seized the championship crowns in both the elementary and secondary divisions of basketball in the 19th Milo Little Olympics Visayas Eliminations yesterday at the Magis Eagles Arena at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

First to land a championship title for USC is its powerhouse elementary division squad, which blasted the SHS-AdC Magis Eagles in the championship game, 56-49, in a game that the Baby Warriors controlled from start to finish.

The USC-Pasarelle, the school’s secondary division squad, completed USC’s dominance in the basketball event of this annual multisporting meet as it prevailed over the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers in a hard-fought championship showdown, 58-52.

Steven Angelo del Campo waxed hot for USC in the secondary title game as he scattered 19 points to lead all scorers while Kent Moral added 13. The losing UV squad was led by Kyle Marvin Campollo, who finished with 17 points.

Justin Atilano topscored for USC in the elementary championship game with his 15 markers, while Kadshein Tagalog added 12.

In the battle for third place, SHS-AdC lambasted the Compostela National High School, 61-42, in the secondary division while the Baby Lancers won over the Cebu Eastern College Dragons, 53-38, for the bronze in the elementary division.

The USC-Pasarelle quintet relied on its strong opening game as they established a commanding 18-5 at the end of the first period before the Baby Lancers found their marks and slashed USC’s edge to just five, 24-19.

USC unleashed another blitzkrieg in the third quarter in the form of a 16-2 run to erect a huge 40-21 lead entering the final canto.

UV retaliated with a furious rally in the payoff period and managed to trim down USC’s advantage to just four points in the final 17.3 seconds, 52-56, but USC held on to the win.

SHS-ADC VS PAREF SPRINGDALE
In the secondary division football at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC), the SHS-AdC and Paref-Springdale forged a championship matchup after toppling separate foes in yesterday’s semifinals.

SHS-AdC was the first to secure a seat in the championship game after surviving a closely-fought showdown against football powerhouse Don Bosco Technological Center, 2-1.

In the other semifinal match-up, Paref-Springdale needed an extra 10 minutes of play before clamping down on the Abellana National School booters, 3-1, to take the remaining seat in the championship round.

The championship game for football will be played this weekend in the resumption of the games at the CCSC.
