THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-7), the Mines Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and Department of Tourism (DOT) will inspect the Kanlaob River in Alegria town to determine if it is suitable for adventure tourism.

“It will be the first time for DENR-7 and MGB-7 to assess the area while it will be the second time for the DOT,” Alegria Mayor Verna Magallon said yesterday. The inspection is scheduled next Tuesday.

Magallon said she’s hoping that the assessment will be positive and the agencies can recommend guidelines for them to adopt and implement for tourist guides and visitors.

The mayor said she wants the tourist guides to undergo training in case the canyoneering can resume at the Kanlaob River in barangay Compostela, Alegria, southwestern Cebu.

Friends of the late Aldrin Carba, who died during a canyoneering activity at Kanlaob River last July 27, marked his 27th birthday today with a mountain trek at Osmeña Peak which started yesterday afternoon and ends today.

Visit

Choy Daruca, a freelance adventurer and Carba’s friend, said the mountain trek was first planned by Carba and his girlfriend and was scheduled last August 5-6.

“Aldrin´s girlfriend said she wants continue their plan that is why we agreed to come with her,¨ he said.

Their adventure going to Osmeña Peak yesterday started at the entry point in barangay Mantalongon, Dalaguete, southeast Cebu. The trek ends in Kawasan Falls in barangay Matutinao, Badian, Cebu today.

Daruca also confirmed that they will visit Carba´s house in barangay Poblacion, Moalboal, Southwest Cebu to visit the family.

Carba was laid to rest last week in his hometown.
