Chan: 32 kids at Home Care Center positive for COVID-19

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – The coronavirus disease is now beginning to affect children in Lapu-Lapu City.
In a Facebook post, Mayor Junard Chan said 32 minors, who are now staying at the Home Care Center for Children in Barangay Gun-ob, tested positive for the infection.
“Naguol ako sa atong pagkahibalo kaganiha nga 32 sa atong mga abandoned children sa atong Homecare Facility naigo sa COVID. Nakabati ko og dakong kahadlok kay ang COVID karon moigo na sa mga kabataan nga lahi sa miaging tuig,” Chan said.
(I was saddened when I learned that 32 abandoned children, who are now staying at our Homecare Facility, were infected with COVID. I felt fear because COVID is now beginning to affect minors different from what we had last year.)
“Sila ang mga kabataan nga wala na gyuy mga ginakanan ug walay masampit nga Mama ug Papa kung sila masakit. Maong isip amahan sa syudad, kita gayud ang mibarog isip ilang amahan ug ato gayud sila gibista kaganiha para mahatagan sa ilang mga panginahanglanon,” the mayor added.
(They are the children who longer have mothers and fathers to attend to their needs when they get sick. That is why as the father of this city, I am acting as their father and I visited them to attend to their needs.)
On Monday, August 9, Chan visited the facility and brought doctors to check on the health of the children.
The mayor also brought vitamins to boost their immune systems and help facilitate their fast recovery.
“Sa atong mga Homecare Children, ayaw kamo pagduhaduha sa pagsampit kanako kay anaa ra ko pirme sa inyung kiliran. God bless kaninyung tanan ug unta maayo na mo,” he added.

The facility has been placed on locked down to prevent the further spread of the virus.
On Sunday, August 8, Lapu-lapu City lone district representative Paz Radaza also delivered food supply such as instant noodles, instant champorado, distilled water, slice bread, sandwich spread, juices, biscuits, eggs, multivitamins, and paracetamol to the center.
She also gave health kits that included alcohol, face mask, face shield, and liquid disinfectants. / dcb
