CEBU CITY, Philippines—To optimize response in times of any bombing incident here, various local government agencies participated in a Mass Casualty Management Simulation Exercise at the Cebu City Sports Center on Friday morning, August 5, 2022.

Around 250 personnel from various government agencies joined the two-hour simulation exercises spearheaded by the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7).

Patrick Liporada, Senior Health Program Officer of the DOH-7’s Health Emergency Management Services, said the activity aims to make effective health and safety emergency response in times of unexpected bombing incidents.

“Ato lang gi-simulate kay kita sa Cebu, daghan man kaayo tag mga planned events ug mga mass gathering. And usa na sa atong gipangandaman nga simbako lang nga naa g’yoy ingon ana nga panghitabo, andam ang siyudad, andam ang Department of Health ug andam pod ang atong mga hospital kung ugaling naa man gani increase sa mga number of victims,” he said.

Liporada said so far they were able to meet the 15-minute target response time during the simulation.

He, however, said various aspects for improvement could also be discussed during their feedbacking and evaluation.

Among those who participated in the simulation exercises were personnel from the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Bureau of Fire Protection in Cebu City, and the Philippine National Police.

Police Major Nolan Tagsip, the station commander of the Cebu City Police Station 2, congratulated the DOH-7 for initiating the simulation exercise.

He also offered some reminders for the public as precaution against possible bombing scenarios.

“One purpose of this also is that para mahimong vigilant ang atong mga tawo in case of naay mga tapok tapok ug naay mga dagkong selebrasyon,” he said.

“We encourage everyone, our public nga ug naay mga unattended baggage, nga di sila sigurado, dili g’yod ta magpataka nga atong kuptan… call  immediately ang atong PNP para atong ma respondehan,” he added.
