What do Sinulog judges look for?

By: Fe Marie Dumaboc January 10,2015 - 02:30 AM

WHAT will make a school’s contingent win the Sinulog dance competition this weekend?

Watch how the presentation stays true to theme of the Sinulog and Fiesta Señor which is  “Sto. Niño, hope of the people”, said choreographer Dolores Suzara, project director of the Sinulog Foundation.

Costumes, snappy moves, dramatic props will please the crowd.

But the judges will be watching out for more , how all elements are tied together.

“The main point to watch out for in the Sinulog sa Kabataan, is their  concept, and how they develop the theme of the festival,”said Suzara, who has  coached batches of Sinulog choreographers from schools, towns and cities who come to Cebu to perform and compete.

The surprise element and a modern edge especially  for the Free Interpretation category is also a big factor, because this is what will amaze the judges, she said.

Eight elementary schools and four high schools from Cebu province will perform today in the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan.

The street dancing and parade will start at 1 p.m. in Capitol Site and proceed to  the Cebu City Sports Center for the final stage performance.

Tickets for bleacher seats cost P75 each.
