Batch 2009 beats Batch 2008 to stay alive in USJ-R Alumni-Damazo Basketball Cup
CEBU CITY, Philippines — The defending champions, Batch 2009, stay alive in the Division 2 competition of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) High School Alumni-Damazo Basketball Cup Season 13.
This as Batch 2009 trounced Batch 2008, 56-49, on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the USJ-R Basak gymnasium.
The victory improved Batch 2009’s record to two wins and two losses.

Batch 2009 in triple tie with 2012, 2014
The win put them in a triple tie with Batch 2012 and 2014 in Division 2’s team standings.
Batch 2009’s Jake Emerson Okan Diamante virtually single-handedly carried his team with his 34-point performance. He paired it with seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
McLain Alkuino had 10 points for the losing squad as Batch 2008 remained at the bottom of the team standings with a 0-4 (win-loss) record.

Batch 202o loses
Meanwhile, Batch 2006 inflicted Batch 2020’s first-ever loss in the tournament with their 83-78 win.
The win tied both teams’ records to 4-1 in Division 2 to share the lead in the standings.
Stanley Hapin dropped 27 points, while teammate Roy Quiachon tallied a double-double game of 18 and 13 boards. Ren Abing added 16 in Batch 2006’s big win.
Christian Amaba scored 25 points, and John Butiong scored 14 in Batch 2020’s defeat.

1996 destroys 2001
On the other hand, Batch 1996 routed Batch 2001, 89-53, behind Serge Quirante’s double-double performance.
Quirante scored 16 points to go with 16 boards. His teammates Ernesto Medalle and Melecio Villaplaza scored 17 and 16 points, respectively.
Shield Alberto scored 21 points in Batch 2001’s losing efforts.
