CEBU CITY, Philippines — Metro Cebu will have generally fair weather for the next five days, according to an official of a state weather bureau stationed in Mactan.

Engineer Al Quiblat, chief of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Mactan (Pagasa-Mactan) said on Sunday, September 10, that it would be sunny during the day until 3 p.m. in Metro Cebu.

Chances of rain in Metro Cebu

He said that there would also be chances of rain showers or isolated rains especially in the afternoon and in the evening due to localized thunderstorms.

“Usahay, kusog (ang ulan) pero low chance ang pagkakaroon ng pag-ulan, Pero magbantay lang gihapon kay naay usahay intense nga mga thunderstorm cloud nga mga mo develop,” Quiblat said.

(Sometimes, it (the rain) is heavy (in Metro Cebu) but there is a low chance that there will be rain. But we should also be vigilant because there are sometimes thunderstorm clouds that will develop.)

He said that the isolated rains occur in the area where thunderstorm clouds would be situated.

No bad weather system affecting Cebu

Aside from the generally fair weather forecast of Metro Cebu, Pagasa-Mactan has not observed a bad weather system affecting Cebu.

Although there is a low-pressure area (LPA), it is far from Visayas, since it is located 730 kilometers east-northeast of extreme  northern Luzon.

“Walay epekto diri sa kabisayaan. Ang habagat pod nato nihinay diri sa Visayas. Tua ni nakaapekto dapit sa northwestern portion sa Luzon,” he said.

(There is no effect (LPA) here in the Visayas. The habagat or southwest monsoon has also slowed down here in the Visayas. It is only affecting the area in the northwestern portion of Luzon.)

The other LPA outside PAR will have no effect as well in the Philippines.

“Dili nato giexpect [nga] makaapekto sa nasud kay nagpalayo iyahang lihok,” Quiblat said.

(We are not expecting that it will affect the country because it is moving away from the country.)

On Saturday, September 9, Quiblat said that they registered a 39.6 degrees celsius heat index.

For the next five days, the heat index forecast is between 38 to 40 degrees celsius.

Meanwhile, the wind conditions will be light to moderate.

For the sea condition, Pagasa-Mactan does not expect a gale warning, with a slight to moderate condition.

Quiblat advised the public to be careful of the heat especially when going outdoors.

In general, the temperature will range between 25 to 33 degrees celsius for the next five days.
