Cebu Gov’s eldest daughter passes bar exam

The eldest daughter of Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III found it hard to believe that she would pass the 2014 Bar Examination.
Patricia Janelli, known by her nickname “Paje,” said she still doesn’t know what to say about it when Cebu Daily News called her this afternoon.
“I still can’t believe it. We were really so tense while waiting for the results, especially this week. I’m feeling mixed emotions. I have a lot of friends who didn’t make it so I really don’t know how to feel yet,” the 26-year old Bar Exam passer said.
Paje, the eldest daughter of Governor Davide and Jobelle Angan, has been living in Manila for nine years.
Before she could check the results this morning, she was already informed by an uncle through phone. “My heart was really pounding when I got the call. I was really shaking and I cried,” she told CDN.
Paje and the thousands of other Bar Exam takers waited for almost five months for the results to come out. During that time, she said she really didn’t think about it during the first few months.

“March came and that’s when it got real,” she said. The governor’s daughter said she even went surfing the day before the release of the results to “get (her) mind off the jitters.”
She said she informed her parents, who are in Cebu, right after she got the call from her uncle. “They were so happy. My mom was crying, too,” said Paje.
Paje is the third Davide in the immediate family line to become a lawyer, alongside her father, and her grandfather retired Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr.
While reviewing, she said that she didn’t have a fixed schedule but employed a mix of listening to lectures and self-reviewing in her study habits.
She said that she would attend lectures when she feels that the professors or lecturers are good.
“I picked the lectures I attended. I’m better when I listen to lectures than when I study on my own because I read kind of slow,” she said.
Other times, she would also prefer reading on her own over listening to lectures when she feels like she was good in the subject during law school.
While waiting for the exam results to come out, Paje said that she was mulling over whether to work in Manila or Cebu.
After she saw the results, she has decided to work in Manila for the time being. “I might apply at a law firm soon,” she said.
