THE JUMBO Plastic Giants pulled off a thrilling 87-83 victory over the Hapee Fresh Fighters to force a winner-take-all affair for a spot in the semis in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup last Monday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Former National University stalwart Glenn Khobuntin stepped up with 13 points and eight rebounds while Jaymo Aguilos added 13 and six boards. New additions Khasim Mirza and Jiovanni Jalalon also proved to be great steals as they had 12 and 11, respectively, with the latter adding seven dimes.
The Giants had the inside track on the win as a 21-0 blast put them in front, 67-53. But Hapee took an 82-81 lead before Khobuntin gave Jumbo Plastic back the lead with an easy transition lay-up. Hapee tried to snatch the win but misses by Ola Adeogun sealed their fate.
Art dela Cruz led Hapee with 26 points while Baser Amer added 21, 13 of which came in the furious comeback try.
The rubber match will take place on Thursday with the winner facing off against top-seed Cebuana Lhuillier on Monday.
In the other quarters affair, Cagayan-Gerry’s booked a spot in the Final Four opposite Café France after outgunning AMA University in overtime, 107-103.
Don Trollano had 31 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Rising Suns to the semis and put to waste Jerramy King’s league-record 40 points.
