Converters post another close victory in E-League
The Convergys Converters found themselves in another tight situation and once again found a way to escape as they nosed out the Teleperformance All Stars, 60-58, last Saturday in the Elite Classic action of the 11th City Sports Club-Cebu (CSC-C) E-League for Basketball at the CSC-C Gym.
The Converters are now off to a 2-0 win-loss start with their first win also to the tune of a 60-58 escaping of the ePerformax Reds.
Sherwin Angjay top scored for the Converters with 11 points and help came aplenty for him. Lourenz Limpangog and Sherwin Resilla scored nine points apiece, Marvin Alquilos and Kenneth Dysam contributed eight apiece, Angelo Lucero pitched in seven markers, while Edsel Duke Capillanes had six.
Marcos Genteli Jungoy III led the All Stars with 12 points, while Ryan Veloso and Gamaliel Bas added 11 and 10 respectively.
While the Converters are off to a solid start, their sister team Convergys Blue Devils faltered in their first assignment after they bowed to the SSI Warriors, 56-70.
Lawrence Daven Agas and Denni Noel Poquita teamed up to lead the Warriors by firing 25 and 20 respectively. Rhett Romeo Tomakin pitched in 15 markers for the Warriors, who evened their record to 1-1.
The Blue Devils had no player scoring in twin digits with Carl Melvin Egay, Kinnlot Mandawe, Roderick Mangubat and Lucky Luke Vidal finishing with eight points each.
In the other Elite Classic game, the Wipro Tigers opened their campaign with a 63-47 routing of the Sykes Pioneers.
Franz Martinez paced the Tigers with 22 points, while Pol Klinton Alfeche pitched in 13 markers.
Sykes, which dropped to 1-1, was led by Emmanuel Auman Jr. and Vernie Jose Diotay with 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Evo League encounter saw the Calltek Trojans nipping the 1&1 Marauders, 57-42.
Pocketing their first win in two games, the Trojans were led by Patrick Jamlan and Aerl Genebraldo, who finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Jan Isiah Gabest topped the Marauders with 10 markers.
