Cebu to have own team in PH Superliga Grand Prix

The “Queen City of the South” will have its very own team – Team Cebu – in the 2015 Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix when it unwraps on Oct. 10 at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.

After winning the PSL Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup 2015 championship over the Foton Tornadoes, Danika Gendrauli and Norie Jane Diaz now turn their attention to indoor volleyball as they have been tapped to spearhead Team Cebu’s maiden campaign in this league.

Gendrauli, the former ace of Southwestern University (SWU), and Diaz, a stalwart from Perpetual Help, will have plenty of help from some of the best players from the region led by Philippine team member and former University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) standout Abby Praca, and ex-SWU sentinels Marlyn Llagoso and Jerra Pacinio.

They will be joined on the team by St. Benilde’s Therese Veronas, Adamson’s Janet Serafica, Jill Gustilo and Marleen Cortel, Far Eastern University’s Samantha Dawson, University of Santo

Tomas’ Lilet Mabayyad and Dian Ticar. The team though has yet to name its two imports.

Bannered by reigning titlist Petron, this year’s Grand Prix promises to be bigger, more explosive, than ever as seven other teams have already confirmed to participate in the country’s premiere inter-club women’s volleyball league.

The Blaze Spikers will be challenged by Cignal, Foton, Meralco-DLSU, Philips Gold and RC Cola-Air Force, which is making a return after taking a one-year breather following the mandatory military training of its players.

Three-time champion Philippine Army is also a cinch to make a comeback, forging an exciting duel with the Blaze Spikers, who won the crown in the past two conferences.
