A 26-YEAR-OLD man was arrested after he allegedly raped and tried to kill a woman in Liloan town, northern Cebu.
Jonjon Layaguin was drunk when he assaulted a 49-year-old woman last Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the victim was walking along a road when the suspect dragged her to a grassy area and raped her.
After the sexual abuse, the man tried to shoot the woman in the head but she was able to run away, said PO3 Neil Ryan Talle of the Liloan Police Station.
The woman sought help from barangay tanods, who alerted the police.
Police failed to recover the gun used in the crime but a spent shell of a .38 revolver was recovered from his posession. Charges for rape and frustrated homicide will be filed against the suspect, police said.
