BEING naturally beautiful is divine and while others may have to enhance their beauty through surgery and other treatments. There are also those who find no harm in continuously wanting to make themselves more confident and a beauty more profound.
Dr. Eric Yalung, Medical Director of Regenestem Manila is one believer of natural beauty and he said other cosmetic surgeons should feel the same. For him, the cosmetic surgeon is an artist. There are no standards in beauty, he said. Doctors may have the same techniques but they differ on appreciating natural beauty.
At Regenestem Cebu, one cosmetic surgery that is gaining popularity among Cebuanos is the Structural Rhinoplasty. Structural Rhinoplasty using septal and conchal cartilage to enhance nasal tip not only gives a most natural look, but also lessens possible complications that can be acquired by the use of prosthetic implants. Dr. Yalung added that rhinoplasty is the most common procedure among the cosmetic surgery. Performing a rhino depends on the problem of the client, what the client needs. Most people thought that when you say noselift, this would automatically mean an implant. But there are actually three materials being used in rhinoplasty: The silicon rhinoplasty, the Goretex and the Cartilage.
Silicon rhinoplasty is the most commonly used implant, the easiest and the most affordable but the disdavantage lies when the patient gets older and the skin becomes elastic, the silicon becomes so obviously eminent in the skin. In silicon rhino, there are techiques as well. Other doctors would place the silicon under the skin or subcutaneous. The proper technique, Dr Yalung said is subperiosteal wherein silicon is placed above the bone and below the muscle. Silicon rhino forms a capsule, within the skin only, therefore not integrated in the muscle, unlike with Goretex.
Goretex is one procedure that grows within the skin and will eventually become part of the body. Although the procedure is expensive, the quality is much better with less rejection. People engaged in sports will more likely appreciate Goretex than silicon implant since the former grows as part of the body while the latter because it is skin deep only, will most likely to break during hypertensive activities like in sports.
The third method is Cartilage. There is no foreign body inserted, just a little enhancement. This procedure can be performed to those with beautiful nose tips.
For whatever surgeries or treatment, it is critical to meet the satisfaction of the client. As a surgeon the most important is the structural rhinoplasty. This would mean improving the nose and the function. “We correct the foundation as well.” But he said not all doctor knows how to perform structural rhinoplasty. The surgery usually lasts for two hours with a downtime of 5-7 days.
