THE treasurer’s office of the municipality of Alegria in southwest Cebu was ransacked by still-unidentified thieves.
Fortunately, the thieves were not able to take anything from the office in barangay Poblacion.
The incident was reported last Monday morning by municipal treasurer Niza Cuevas, she said.
Cuevas initially reported that P8,000 was missing. After an inventory conducted by disbursing officer Jose Wilson Patriarca, it was discovered that the cash was in a safety vault that the thieves failed to open.
When police inspected the office, the knob of the main door was destroyed and the drawers were forcibly opened, said PO2 Lenard Cabahug, investigator of Alegria Police Staion.
A cabinet where the safety vault was kept was also destroyed.
The office located at the ground floor of the municipal building, which is a few meters from the police station.
The municipal hall was open for the weekend for the election registration.
The municipal hall has no security detail. The security camera is usually turned off during weekends since its memory is not capable of recording for 24 hours.
Personnel of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (of the Cebu Provincial Police Office took the fingerprints of some 30 municipal personnel who were working until 8 p.m. last Sunday.
