PROMISING Cebuano basketball players who are looking to play for flag and country will get the chance to do so as the Philippine national youth squad dubbed as the “Batang Gilas” will be holding tryouts for the upcoming Under-18 Southeast Asia Basketball and Fiba Asia tournaments next year.
The announcement was made by team manager Andrew Teh, who said a three-day tryouts will be held starting on Dec. 18 at the Meralco Gym in Pasig City.
The Dec. 18 tryout, which starts at 8 p.m., will be for players born in January until April of 1998 and 1999. The Dec. 19 session will be for players born in May until August and will commence at 5 p.m. The three-day tryout comes to a close on Dec. 20, with players born in September until December encouraged to come. Call time will be at 4 p.m.
Players joining the try outs will be required to present an authenticated (National Statistics Office) birth certificate upon registration. The try outs will be presided over by Batang Gilas head coach Michael Oliver.
