Poe courts Cebu students, promises free wifi connection in state colleges and universities
SPEAKING before 5, 000 university students in Cebu, presidential aspirant Grace Poe spoke of her plans to address the country’s peace and order problems and put up free wifi connections in state colleges and universities.
Poe also mentioned of the need to put up a train system to address Cebu’s growing congestion problem.
“Tuwing ako ay pumupunta dito sa Cebu ay naghahanda talaga ako dahil alam ko na ang inyong mga katanungan ay importante at malaman. At sasagutin natin yan,” she said.
Senator Poe said she admires how ‘critical’ the Cebuanos are in choosing their candidates.
“Hindi uso dito sa Cebu na porke’t sikat ka, ikaw ay iboboto bila. Hindi uso dito sa Cebu na porke’t artista or maganda or gwapo ka, ikaw ang pipiliin nila. Ang importante dito sa Cebu ay kung ano ang isyu. Kung ikaw ba ay may kakayanan na mamuno,” she said.
Poe and her vice presidential candidate Chiz Escudero were in Cebu earlier today for a dialog with students of the South Western University (SWU) held at the Aznar Coliseum.
The tandem arrived at 11 a.m. and stayed with students for almost an hour.
Senators Poe and Escudero arrived with senatorial candidates Susan Ople and Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares.
In her message, Poe told the students that as a mother, she understands their parents fear for their safety especially when they come home late at night.
Poe said she will address these fears when she becomes president.
Her platform includes the need to declare drug pushers and illegal drugs as national security threats.
“Hindi lamang PDEA at pulis ang huhuli sa kanila kung hindi lahat ng sangay ng gobyerno pati ang military,” she said.
She said she will also require the establishment of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in barangays with high incidence of drug-related cases to help in crime deterrence.
Barangay CCTVs will be connected to the nearest police station.
Poe also wanted cash incentives given to crime-free barangays.
