Taiheiyo Cement Philippines, Inc. and materials supplier Solid Earth Development Corp. recently honored three scholars who graduated cum laude from the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R).

The three graduates, including two who are now Certified Public Accountants (CPA), comprise the third batch of scholars under the two companies’ joint Social Development Management Program (SDMP), Taiheiyo said in a statement.

The program currently  has 62 scholars, 14 in college and 48 in high school. All are residents of San Fernando town in southern Cebu, where both firms operate.

The program pays for the tuition and provides the basic educational expenses and the students’ daily needs, said Mitzie Almira I. Carin, Solid Earth deputy division manager for human resources and administration who manages the scholarship program.

The cum laude graduates are Rutchiel Mae G. Geraldizo of Barangay South Poblacion; Geraldine P. Gorre of Barangay Magsico, who finished Bachelor of Science in Accounting (BSA); and Vincent Nie R. Villarin of Barangay Pitalo, who took BS Management Accounting. Geraldizo and Gorre have also passed the recent CPA licensure examinations and are now working, respectively, for CPA firms Luis Canete & Co. and Manabat San Agustin & Co.

Taiheiyo President Satoshi Asami and Solid Earth Director Takehito Oga recently handed the grants to the beneficiaries.
