THE University of San Carlos Press, in cooperation with Ayala Center Cebu, will launch a groundbreaking 350-page publication entitled, “The Cebu Almanac 2016” on Monday at 4 p.m. at the Ayala Activity Center.
The launching will be accompanied by an exhibition of graphic panels detailing important information on Cebu culled from the myriad of data in the book.
The result of eight months of data gathering by the different academic departments and research centers of USC, “The Cebu Almanac 2016” is a definitive volume of facts and figures useful to just about anyone interested in and about Cebu.
“The book comes on the heels of a demand for information conveniently accessible in a single volume,” writes Cebu Almanac project head Prof. Frank Largo, in his preface to the book.

Largo, who teaches at the USC School of Business and Economics, said that before this book became a reality, “a determined consumer of this information would have had to make numerous stops across a variety of data sources online and offline. For this groundbreaking volume, a substantial amount of data had to be collected from various sources across the province.”
Those data, coupled with analytical articles are spread in eleven large sections that include the economy, population, health and healthcare, education, nature and the environment, business and industry, infrastructure, tourism, history and culture, and finally, politics and governance in Cebu.
Designed to be an annual publication, the book also presents the top news stories of 2015 as well as special feature stories on the Cebu-Cordova Bridge, changes at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, the upcoming Bus Rapid Transit system, and the real estate industry in Cebu. A discussion on dengue as well as the state of Cebu’s environment is also among the stories in the book.
