President Benigno Aquino III has appointed Ahmed Cuizon back to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas (LTFRB 7).
Cuizon took his oath of office as LTFRB-7 director yesterday at 4 p.m. before LTFRB chair Winston Ginez at the agency’s regional office in Cebu City.
Cuizon would officially assume his post in the middle of the month since he had to clear all the paperworks at the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority where he was assistant general manager.
Reynaldo Elnar, outgoing LTFRB-7 director, said he would go back to his old post as assistant regional director once Cuizon takes over.
Cuizon was LTFRB-7 director until he asked for a transfer to MCIAA effective Oct. 28, 2014.
Elnar said he learned that Cuizon applied back as LTFRB 7 director in March 2015. But Cuizon clarified that he was actually invited by the LTFRB board to return because of new programs and projects that can be implemented only by a permanent regional director.
His transfer was approved by President Aquino after the election ban for transfer of government personnel took effect on Jan. 10. Cuizon said the Department of Transportation of Communication applied for the exemption and it was approved by the Commission on Elections.
As new regional director of LTFRB 7, Cuizon vowed to act on complaints from passengers about the refusal of jeepney drivers to give 50 centavos change. He urged passengers to file a formal complaint so drivers can be penalized. LTFRB recently gave a provisional decrease of the jeepney minimum fare from P7 to P6.50 for the first five kilometers, but most of the drivers refused to give change.
