Batch ’99/Southchoice rebounds from shocking defeat in Cecaba
SMARTING from its first loss in two years, back-to-back defending champion Batch 1999/Southchoice Inc. vented its ire on Batch 2000 for a 103-67 blowout victory last Tuesday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 15th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.
Batch ’99 had its 42-game win streak snapped when it dropped a close 99-100 decision to Batch 1998/Kaking last week. The powerhouse team quickly put the bitter loss behind them as it dominated the match from start to finish behind the 34-point explosion of reigning MVP Mark Bukiron.
Bukiron also added 13 rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot. Sherwin Miranda Sy pitched in 15 points, Earn Saguindel contributed 12 markers, Lao donated 11, while Troy Tan cashed in 10 markers in a balanced attack by Batch ’99, which stayed at the number one spot with a 6-1 (win-loss) record.
Richard Cua Ho fired 23 points, Lorenz Azzaraga had 20 points and Oliver Boltron tallied 11 in Batch 2000’s fifth loss in six games.
CEC-D/Dimsum Frito, meanwhile, snatched its fourth victory in seven games by downing CEC-E, 68-50.
Tommy Yu paced CEC-D with 18 markers, six rebounds and three blocks, while Jim Paul Yankee, Sherwin So and Calvin Ang added 13, 12 and nine markers, respectively.
Norman Lopez and Cedric Chua both scored 12 points, Vincent Sy and Bryan Labus came up with 12 markers apiece but CEC-E lost its grip of the number one spot and fell to second place with its second loss in eight outings.
