Marc Pradel started the day with a loss and got the boot in the 16-boys’ division.
The Cebuano netter, however, didn’t panic and instead chalked up three straight wins to advance to the final round in the 18-under boys’ division of the Cebuana Lhuillier Age-Group Tennis Championship yesterday at the Baybay Tennis Club.
Pradel, a prized ward of the University of San Carlos Warriors (USC), was eliminated in the 16-under boys’ division after dropping his elimination round assignment against fellow Cebuano Marc Nicole Suson, 1-6, 0-6.
Pradel regrouped in the 18-under, beating Kevin Espinosa first, 6-2, 6-4, before dispatching Michael Anfernee Gorre, 6-3, 7-5, in the semifinal round.
Pradel continued his onslaught by putting away Yves Camay, 6-1, 6-4, to clinch a seat in the final round.
Pradel will meet the winner in the semifinal match between Suson and Jules Cari.
The 15-year-old Suson of the University of Cebu Webmasters (UC) will face Joshua Torres in the 16-under boys’ division semifinal round.
Suson’s teammate Venz Alforque also made it to the 16-under boys’ semifinal round after he dumped Jaime Eckart, 6-1, 6-0.
In other games, Cebuano Harland Hogan suffered a blowout loss against top-ranked Rupert Tortal, 0-6, 0-6, in the semifinal round of the 12-under boys’ contest.
