Militant groups back Lolypop
THE militant transport group Piston and the partylist group Sanlakas voiced support for the mayoral bid of Mandaue City Councilor Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon yesterday.
In a press conference yesterday, Piston-Cebu coordinator Greg Perez said their concerns were not addressed by Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and they expect more of the same from his ally, Rep. Luigi Quisumbing of Cebu’s sixth district.
Quisumbing is running for Mandaue City’s mayoral post under the Liberal Party (LP) Cebu chapter while Dizon is with the One Cebu party. Perez said Dizon promised them that she won’t phase out tricycle operations in the city.
Piston members earlier held a rally in front of Mandaue City Hall to protest the alleged planned phaseout of tricycle units and the entry of SM MyBus units in Mandaue City.
James Calipayan, Cortes’s executive secretary whom the mayor sent to dialogue with the group, refuted Piston’s claims of a phaseout and said the MyBus units were allowed to ply Mandaue City’s routes to convince motorists to use public transportation.
