FORMER PROBE head and market administrator Raquel Arce has been assigned to guard the Doña Pepang Cemetery in Barangay Tejero.
In a press conference yesterday, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña announced that Arce will work as night shift security guard for the cemetery.
When asked why, the mayor just smiled and answered, “Why not?”
Arce resigned as Prevention, Restoration, Orderly, Beautification and Enhancement (PROBE) head last June 21, and her resignation was accepted by then acting mayor, Councilor Margarita “Margot” Osmeña.
When sought for comment, Arce, who is an eligible employee of city hall, refused to comment on the matter, saying she will just ask for the official memorandum for her new position.
Meanwhile, Tomas is still working out the appointment and reappointment of some department heads at Cebu City hall.
Tomas said that he is entertaining five retired policemen who applied as PROBE head.
There are also reports circulating that Bimbo Fernandez will be hired as city administrator. But Fernandez denied this, saying, “Dili pa na tinuod, dili pa klaro. Ang problema gud dunay Civil Service requirements nga kinahanglan ayuson. So sa pagkakaron, I’m just here helping him (Tomas) personally (That is not true, not clear. The problem is that there are Civil Service requirements that need to be complied. So for now, I’m just here helping (Tomas) personally,” he said.
Osmeña said that Fernandez will be going to be a city administrator in concurrent capacity.
He said that his administration will focus on the urban poor issue, and Fernandez is the most qualified to address this.
At present, Fernandez said Osmeña gave him a special task like reorganizing Department of Welfare for urban Poor (DWUP) and Department of Social Welfare and Services.
Also, he added that he is still working on whom to recommend as City Treasurer and other important positions.
