JAYBIE Mantilla and Jun Miguel Gastador combined for 49 points to lead the University of San Jose- Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars to a 90-85 victory over the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors yesterday in the Recoletos de Cebu Basketball Cup at the Recoletos Coliseum.

Gastador finished with 25 points, while Mantilla tallied 24 as the Jaguars barged into the win column after starting the tournament with a 60-73 loss to the University of Sto Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers last Thursday.

Gastador and Nelvin Navarra delivered timely baskets in the closing minutes that helped the Jaguars seal the victory.

Gastador drilled a booming triple that shattered an 82-all deadlock with 2:29 left. Navarra for his part, came up with a crucial jumper that gave the Jaguars an 87-84 cushion in the final 25 seconds.

In the other game, visiting team University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers proved too much for the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers as they hacked out a lopsided 84-48 victory.

Mario Bonleon led the Growling Tigers with 15 points.
It was UST’s second win in as many games, while UV fell to 0-2 (win-loss).
