CTU rules SCUAA reg’l meet

The Cebu Technological University (CTU) came away with the most number of medals at the conclusion of the 2014 State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA)-7 regional meet yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

With the overall title for athletics already in its bag with a harvest of 18 golds, 13 silvers and six bronzes, CTU continued its rampage and bagged two more titles.

CTU copped the championship crown in taekwondo after it collected seven golds, three silvers and three bronzes in the event then added the boxing overall title after hauling four golds and two silvers.

CTU, which finished second behind CNU in swimming, added another runner-up honors in arnis by winning a gold on top of 10 silvers and two bronze medals.

The Bohol Island State University (BISU), second placer in athletics and swimming, landed third in arnis with two silvers and five bronzes.

The BISU fighters gave their school its third second place finish after winning three golds and four silvers in boxing.

Organizers of the event said that there will be no overall champion in the meet as they are only awarding champions per sport.

The Cebu Normal University (CNU) bets, who won the swimming event with a total of 433 points and the third place in athletics with a 7-9-8 (gold-silver-bronze) tally, sealed its second championship title after its arnis team raked in 12 golds and a silver.

The Negros Oriental State University (NORSU), for its part, finished second behind CTU in taekwondo with a haul of five golds, three silvers and two bronzes. BISU wound up third with a 2-8-1 harvest.
SCUAA officials have yet to tabulate the results of the other events.

The SCUAA association is composed of 93 institutions, conferences, organizations and individuals that organizes athletic programs of several public colleges and universities in the Philippines.
