Kepco SPC ends dispute with union

The Kepco SPC Power Corporation (KSPC) and Kepco Cebu Employees Association-Workers Solidarity Network (KCEA-WSN) signed on Thursday their first collective bargaining agreement (CBA), ending their labor dispute and ensure the continuity of a strong partnership between the management and its workforce.

“This occasion proves that management and union can be development partners. This negotiation is an indicator on how persistent the company and its people are in attaining and sustaining harmonious industrialized rapport,” said KSPC President Cho Chang Yong in a statement on Friday.

Cho and KCEA-WSN President Alexjorhel Ponce met with officials of the labor union at the Cebu Parklane International Hotel in Cebu City on Aug. 4 for the CBA signing, the statement said.

Management signatories were Vice President Hee Young Park, General Counsel Guillermo Dabbay Jr., Human Resource (HR) Manager Sang Hun Lee, Operation Manager Bumgi Park, Legal Assistant Manager Carlo Emmanuel Salva, External Counsel Alan Fontanosa, HR Assistant Manager Judith De Leon, HR Labor Officer Maryfel Agbay and Finance Assistant Manager Rosemarie Flores.

The workers union was represented by Vice President Al-Wilson Aliño; Secretary Earl Vincent Adlawan; Treasurer Ian Rubin; members Pedie Belotendos, Julius Caesar Olayvar and Chudney Ledesma; WSN President Maria Theresa Paunlagui; and WSN representatives Dennis Derige and Vincent Unay Jr.

Officials of the Central Visayas offices of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) and Conciliator-Mediator Paciano Murro and Kepco Philippines Makati Legal Supervisor Ma. Angelica Paglicawan witnessed the CBA signing.
Cho thanked the NCMB for helping resolve pending issues to the satisfaction of both parties and recognized the active participationand openness of the union panel during the entire negotiations.

“I am looking forward to a trusting, cooperative relationship with you. Let us continue to exhibit the spirit of cooperation and contagious respect in our partnership,” Cho said in a message during the CBA signing.

Ponce said the the union would continue to help promote a harmonious working environment in the power plant and will be helping the management achieve the future goals of the company.

KSPC owns and operates the 200-megawatt (MW) modern coal-fired Cebu Power Plant in the City of Naga, Cebu, which has been a key power supplier in the Visayas region since 2011.
